    Description

    For auction is a wo
nderful Arts and Crafts vessel made by Hampshire Pottery of Keene, NH. The piece is known as a " Milk Pitcher” and it is done in and arts & crafts glaze of matte green.
    This milk pitcher measures 6
7/8" tall and is 5 3/8" in diameter outside handle measurement.
The pitcher displays a tapered shape with an applied handle and spout to pour milk or any other fluid.
The pitcher has a wonderful matte cucumber green glaze. The vase has embossed mermaids rising up out of the water on each side of the handle. There is a 3rd mermaid diving into the water. The inside of the pitcher shows a semi-gloss water proofing green glaze inside.
The underside bottom displays that beautiful ground down smooth round bottom edge. There is also the synonymous semi-gloss white glaze with some crazing.
This milk pitcher is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings.
The vessel is not signed on the bottom but it has that ground bottom with white. This is as good as a signature. I cannot empathize how rare this Pitcher really is. I have been dealing and collecting Hampshire Pottery for some 47+ years. I have never seen another example. This is the only known example of this form. I have searched the internet and my reference books and cannot find another example. In my book this makes this one of the rarest forms in the Hampshire Pottery manufacturing that was produced by them. There must have been a very small production of this pitcher.
This piece can be dated based on the lack of the "M" in a Circle mark and the Hampshire Pottery mark. That was the mark that Cadmon Robertson the glaze Chemist used during his tenure with Hampshire Pottery. This vase was made before his tenure which was from 1904-1914. I would say this vase was made circa 1891-1899.
Hampshire Pottery was making matte blue and green glazes starting in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main Competitor Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. This will make a wonderful addition to any matte blue pottery collection of art pottery and would look great on that Stickley Mission Arts and Crafts Bookcase.

I want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. Ebay forced me into managed payments in July of this year 2020.
I used to get my money in 24 hours. I now get it in 3-4 business days. I was told it would be better for me and my fees would go down. This has been the opposite as my fees have actually increased and now it takes longer for me to receive the payments
. Because of this slowdown I will not ship until the payment has made it into my bank account. No store lets you out of the building with the
    merchandise
    unless it is paid for.
    They are also n
ow charging all sellers a commission of 11.5% on sales tax. Pay Pal used to charge 2.9% payment processing fee but Ebay has changed this to 11.5%. This is an increase of 8.6% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 11.5% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges.
If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
