The shield measures 18" in diameter and is constructed of thick buffalo rawhide stretched and shrunk over a wood hoop with a buffalo hide cover. The shield has lightning bolt imagery in two places on the edge area of the shields cover representing an animals heartline possibly representing an animals power that is the shield bearers medicine. There are also three bird images in flight with one being the largest in the center with two smaller images. There is also a radiating sun image in the upper right area of the shield.
