Antique Chippewa Native American Inidan Beaded Bandolier Bag

Description

Circa 1885, Chippewa bandolier beaded bag.
Large strapped bag, worn from the shoulder and across the body.
Used primarily for ceremonial purposes during the reservation period.
The large size and beautyof these bags showed the prestige of the wearer.
this bags foundation is made of a dark brown, navy cloth material, backside done in checkered cloth material.
A light colored clothtape is sewn along the outside border of the bag..  this was done to protect the edges.
Bag area measures 18 inches high and 17 inches wide.
It is seed beaded in a white background colorwith design elements of flowers and leaf motifs done in shades of green, yellow, pink, blues, amber, black, and reds.
Bottom of the bag has loom beaded tabs with end threads of being wrapped with cut bulgle beads and red yarn threads.
Strap area measures 7 inches wide and about 26 inches at each side.
The strap is an extension of the whole bag and not put on seperatley.
The strap is fully seed beaded on front surfaces in white colored background with same design elements and colors as pocket area.
The extension above the pocket and part of the strap is spot stitch and applique method.
The floral and leaf designs were put on first and the white colored background was then added afterwards.
Strap at the top is divided by a width of cut bugle beads and yarn tassels.
