Description
Up for auction is a fine example of Potawatomi beadwork. This classic period bandolier bag was deaccessioned from a museum in Michigan in the 1950's and has been in a private collection ever since. The geometric design executed in smaller than average seed beads in the post civil war limited palette of colors. The bottom beaded tabs feature faceted two color "mourning" beads and woolen tassels as well as tassels added to the top of the bandolier beaded strap. Circa 1870. The bag portion measures 12 1/2" x 21". The overall strap length is 46" and width of 6". Overall display length is 43". There is one area of moth damage to the felt on the strap backing. The straps also have been repaired and reattached at some point.I provide detailed descriptions and photos. Please ask questions. I do not accept returns.
